Every sightseeing of a big city or a town includes visits to places of historical interest. A big textile and regional center, Ivanovo is an integral part of the Golden Ring. It is situated about 300 kilometers from Moscow.

Compared with the other towns, Ivanovo is young, but the first mention of the village Ivanovo was found in the chronicles of the 16th century. It was a small village on the right bank of the river Uvod, which grew into the town in 1871.

In the 17th century Ivanovo was mentioned as a large industrial village. The first weaving enterprises were set in Ivanovo in the middle of the 18th century. In the second half of the 19 century the town became a big textile centre of Russia.

Ivanovo occupies both banks of the small Uvod River, linked by several bridges. The city's main street goes across one of them connecting what was the former village of Ivanovo with Voznesensky Possad. The main street of Ivanovo is Lenin Avenue. It is a wide street with multistoried buildingslined with trees and bushes. There is a heavy traffic in Lenin Avenue; trams, buses, trolleybuses, cars run up and down the street.

We have two examples of the 17th century architecture today: the wooden Assumption Church and the Shchudrovskaya Palatka.

Pushkin Square is the best starting point for our tour about the town. It is the central square in Ivanovo and the place of outdoor festivals. The Palace of Arts is situated there. It is occupied by Drama Theatre, Musical Theatre and Puppet Theatre.

In the centre of Ivanovo near the Circus there is the Museum of Local Lore, in which the past of Ivanovo region is illustrated by numerous exhibits.

We have a fine collection of fabrics made by Ivanovo masters in different museums of the town. These fabrics charm the eye with their beautiful patterns and colours.

The Art Museum has a fine collection of icons and many interesting works by Russian painters. This museum was founded and presented to the town by a famous manufacturer Dmitry Burylin.

As we continue our tour of Ivanovo we get to know a number of monuments and memorials, connected with the revolutionary events of 1905: the Red Talka Memorial, the monument to Mikhail Frunze, the monument to the Fighters for Revolution. The monument to the Fighters for Revolution stands in Revolution square in the town centre, where our tour ends.
