2. Do you know an interesting story about a dog?

3. What do you know of the kangal?

The kangal is a very big dog found only in Turkey, where it is used to take care of sheep. It comes from Anatolia, a part of Turkey.

Although dogs are not very popular in Turkey, and very few people keep them in their homes, most Turkish people like the kangal, and some people do keep them as pets. In the mountains, they also work as baby-sitters, looking after very young children. Turkish people trust their kangals. They think kangals are brave, strong, and loyal, as they are themselves.

There is a famous but sad story about a kangal. One day, a farmer and his wife left their kangal to take care of their baby while they went to work in the fields. When they came home in the evening, the kangal came out to meet them. The farmer saw that it had blood around its mouth. He knew what had happened - the kangal had attacked and killed their baby. He quickly shot the animal, then he ran with his wife into their house. Inside the house, they saw their baby sitting on the ground. It was crying, but not hurt.

Near it, however, was a dead bear. They could see that there had been a fight between the kangal and the bear. The kangal had won the fight, and saved their child from certain death.
