Imperative mood (повелительное наклонение)
Exercise 1. Respond to the sentences with the imperative mood.
1. I can’t read in the dark (to switch on the light). 2. We want to listen to the news (to switch on the music). 3. I want to go to the cinema (to buy tickets). 4. I don’t know where the library is (to ask your friend). 5. There is no water in the kettle. (to pour some water). 6. I haven’t got a dictionary (to borrow it from the library). 7. I’m thirsty (to have some mineral water). 8. It is stuffy in the room (to open the window). 9. I am tired (to go to bed). 10. I am hungry (to go to the café).
Exercise 2. Use affirmative and negative forms of the imperative mood.
1. (not conduct) the experiment now. 2. (answer) the letter at once. 3. (not give) English books in the original. 4. (present) the article in time. 5. (not be) noisy in class. 6. Exercise 3. Translate the sentences into Russian.

Exercise 5. Respond to the sentences with Let us (Let’s).

The weather is fine today (go for a walk). 6. He feels hungry (have dinner). 7. The task is very difficult (make it together). 8. I don’t like trains (travel by plane). 9. Exercise 6. Change the sentences according to the model.

Exercise 11. Translate the following sentences.
1. Ask no questions and you will be told no lies. 2. Never judge by appearance. 3. If you want to be seen stand up, if you want to be heard speak up, if you want to be appreciated shut up. 4. Watch closely the rise in temperature! 5. Let me turn back in order to make my point of view a little clearer. 6. Don’t look through the text once more! 7. And now let us try to explain. 8. Make sure that the result agrees with the expected one, check it. 9. Do not be so persistent! 10. Be content with little! 11. Let no reader suppose that my method is the only one. 12. Don’t expect to succeed at your first, or even your second, attempt. 13. When you have done your article put it away for six months and see if you still understand it yourself. 14. Before testing the sample dry it carefully.
Exercise 12. Read the following wise advice and try to follow it in your life.
Take time to think, it is the source of power. Take time to read, it is the foundation of knowledge. Take time to work, it is the price to success. Take time to enjoy friends, it is the source of happiness. Take time to laugh, it is the singing that helps life’s load. Take time to play, it is the secret of youth. Take time to dream, it hitches the soul to the stars. Take time to love, it is the one sacrament of life.
