Exercise 1. Make the following sentences negative and interrogative.

1. Children usually sleep very soundly. 2. We often drink coffee together. 3. Englishmen seldom speak at breakfast. 4. I read books and listen to the music every day. 5. Tony never praises me for anything. 6. He leaves home at 9 a.m. every day. 7. The teacher comes in and shuts the door. 8. He arrives home early. 9. It is rarely cold in Great Britain even in winter. 10. Our secretary types a great number of letters every day.

Exercise 2. Ask questions to the sentences beginning with the words in brackets.

Exercise 3. Read the following sentences and correct them.

Pattern: The sun goes around the earth. – The sun doesn’t go around the earth. The earth goes around the sun.

Exercise 4. Ask all types of questions to the following sentences.

1.Carol lives in a very nice cottage with her family. 2. I usually get up early because I hate being late to my office. 3. No one lives in that house now. They believe it’s haunted. 4. Pete always reads some pages from one book or another before going to bed. 5. Gerry goes to the computer club every day. 6. It takes him half an hour to get to his work. 7. I enjoy reading his books. They are so fascinating. 8. The milkman brings us milk very early. 9. Lots of people enter this University every year. 10. Phil enjoys sports, but he doesn’t enjoy music at all.

Exercise 5. Use the Present Simple Tense instead of the infinitives in brackets.

a) 1. Linda and I (work) for the company, which (produce) automobiles. 2. We both (work) at an office which (be) in front of the factory where cars (be made). 3. I (start) work at 10 o’clock, and Linda (come) to the office at nine. 4. She (be) good at typing, she (write) letters and reports every day. 5. Exercise 6. Translate the following sentences into English.
