Drugs are natural or synthetic chemical substances changing the state of a human being. They can change the way you think, feel or act. Some drugs are illegal in most countries because of their powerful addictive qualities, which can lead to chaotic lifestyles and poor health...

· How can drugs harm you?

Drugs can make you sick or even kill you. You may suffer from frequent colds and influenza. Drugs hinder learning and memory. It is difficult for drug addicts to learn at school and work. Many drugs are capable of changing the mood or making you unhappy. Drugs can deprive you of coordination...

· So why do people consume drugs?

Some start to take drugs out of curiosity. Some would like to forget about their problems. Some want to take drugs because their friends do so, and they don’t want to stand out....

· What is dependence?

First people take drugs so as to feel better. Thereafter they have to consume drugs so as to be just O.K. If a person is addicted to drugs the human organism gets addicted, and the person needs a bigger dose to experience the same feeling. This increases the probability of serious diseases...

· Make your child (friend) strong and resilient.

Help develop his or her self-esteem – the experience of being respected by others and having their feelings and needs taken seriously helps a child to accept his/herself. Dealing with conflicts – teach that conflicts can be solved by negotiation...

There are a great number of places offering more information or assistance in giving up drug use. You may approach: parents, doctor, adult friends or parents of friends, schoolteacher. You can find books about drug use in your school or local library....

Смешная картинка активизирует тот же мозговой центр, как и порция кокаина, что убедительно доказали ученые из Стэндфордского университета. Исследователи попросили своих коллег, родственников и друзей выбрать самые смешные карикатуры среди предложенных. Всем им ученые показали картинки, исследуя тем временем процессы, происходившие в их головах. Как удалось установить, картинки активизировали тот же нервный контур, который активизируется при употреблении кокаина, получении денег или созерцании красивых лиц. Этот центр взаимодействует с допамином - веществом, создающим чувство бла-гополучия. Активация этого региона может объяснить то состояние эйфории, в котором находится человек после хорошей шутки.

В эту сферу приходят высокие технологии, и если некоторое время назад курильщик мог рассчитывать в основном на помощь нарколога, психотерапевта, иглорефлексотерапевта, то уже в скором времени серьезно заниматься лечением табачной зависимости, начнут иммунологи. Сейчас большие надежды связываются с созданием вакцины от никотина, которая позволит значительно облегчить отказ от курения. Сама по себе молекула никотина не вызывает в организме достаточный иммунный ответ и образование антител. Задача ученых заключается в том, чтобы представить никотин иммунной системе вместе с другой молекулой, которая поможет его распознать и создать защитные антитела. Как предполагают авторы, если курильщик не будет получать ожидаемого эффекта от очередной сигареты, это поможет отказаться от вредной привычки.
