The travel and tourism industry is one of the world’s largest industries with a global economic contribution (direct, indirect and induced) of almost 7.6 trillion U.S. dollars in 2014. The direct economic impact of the industry, including accommodation, transportation, entertainment and attractions, was approximately 2.36 trillion U.S. dollars that year. A number of countries, such as France and the United States, are consistently popular tourism destinations, but other, less well-known countries are quickly emerging in order to reap the economic benefits of the industry.
Worldwide, the tourism industry has experienced steady growth almost every year. International tourist arrivals increased from 528 million in 2005 to 1.13 billion in 2014. Figures were forecasted to exceed 1.8 billion by 2030. Each year, Europe receives the most international tourist arrivals. It also produces the most travelers: with 575 million outbound tourists in 2014, the region had more than double that of the second largest tourist origin, the Asia Pacific region.
In 2014, global international tourism revenue reached approximately 1.25 trillion U.S. dollars, having almost doubled since 2005. That year, China had the largest international tourism expenditure, followed by the United States and Germany. The leading city in international visitor spending was London, where tourists spent more than 19 billion U.S. dollars in 2014.

Історичні місця в Україні
But Ukrainian places of interest are situated not only in Kyiv. Near the small town of Kanev the monument to the Ukrainian national genius Taras Shevchenko is situated. The museum, where the books, drawings and manuscripts of Shevchenko are kept, is situated in the village not far from Kanev. Even the house, where he was born, is preserved. It is very interesting to look at it. One may come to Poltava and visit the museum of the famous Poltava battle, the field where Peter the Great defeated the Swedes. One may also go to Zaporizhia, to the island of Khortytsia, where the Ukrainian Cossacks' organization was born. One can go to Odesa and walk along the boulevards, where Pushkin walked a long time ago, and one can touch the trees, which Pushkin touched. It is also possible to visit the last house of Chekhov (now the museum in Yalta), where Chekhov lived, and where he wrote his last works, and where he died. One may visit the famous symbol of the Crimea — the castle "Swallow's Nest" or the residence of Russian tsars. It is possible to go through Gogol places in the Poltava Region and see Dickanka, Sorochintsy. One can continue this list, because there is also Western Ukraine with the Carpathians and their legends, feudal lords' castles and cathedrals, with their unique culture and nature. There are a lot of places to see in Ukraine and to be proud of. And I am glad to live in such a country, with all those beautiful monuments.
Музеї України

The Museum of Art named after Bogdan and Varvara Khanenko was founded on the basis of their private collections. The museum is also known as the Museum of Western and Oriental Art. Now it keeps one of the best collections of foreign art in Ukraine. From 1919 the number of exhibits has been more than 13 times increased, from 1,250 to nearly 17,000 artworks.
National Art Museum of Ukraine
It is a real treasury of canvases by prominent Ukrainian and foreign painters. This museum also contains a priceless collection of unique icons. Now there are thousands of exhibits presented in the museum's collections. The 1990s, the first decade of Ukrainian independence, were the time when museum came to an international level. For the first time in the museum's history its collections were exhibited in famous museums of Canada, France, Denmark, Croatia and they became real sensations.
Чудес світу
The Seven Wonders of the World
The list of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World was originally compiled around the second century BC, although Herodotus wrote about the idea as long ago as the 5th century BC. The final list of the Seven Wonders was compiled during the Middle Ages. The list comprised the seven most impressive monuments of the Ancient World, some of which barely survived to the Middle Ages.
The Great Pyramids of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops) was built by the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu of the Fourth Dynasty around the year 2560 BC. The structure consists of approximately
2 million blocks of stone, each weighing more than two tons. When it was built, the Great pyramid was 481 ft high.
It ranked as the tallest structure on Earth for more than 43 centuries. It is the oldest and only surviving 'wonder'.
Hanging Gardens of Babylon Terraced gardens adjoining Nebuchadnezzar's palace said to rise from 75-300 feet. Supposedly built by the king about 600 BC to please his wife, a princess from the mountains, but they are also asssociated with the Assyrian Queen Semiramis.
Most descriptions of the Gardens come from Greek historians, but Babylonian records stay silent on the matter.
Statue of Zeus at Olympia
Carved by Phidias, the 40-foot statue marked the site of the original Olympic games in the 400s BC.
It was constructed of ivory and gold, and showed Zeus on his throne. It was regarded as the greatest work in Greek sculpture. Today nothing remains at the site of the old temple except the foundation of the buildings, and fallen columns.
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
Constructed of parian marble and more than 400 feet long with over 100 columns 60 ft high, it was begun about 550 BC and took some 120 years to build. It was decorated with bronze statues sculpted by the most skilled artists of their time: Phidias, Polycleitus, Kresilas, and Phradmon. In 356 BC a man named Herostratus burned the temple to ground in an attempt to immortalize his name.
Mausoleum at Halicarnassus Erected by Queen Artemisia in memory of her husband King Mausolus of Caria (in Asia Minor), who died 353 BC. It stood 140 feet high. The beauty of the Mausoleum is not only in the structure itself, but in the decorations and statues that adorned the outside at different levels on the podium and the roof. All that remains are a few pieces in the British Museum and the word 'mausoleum' in the English language.
Colossus of Rhodes
Gigantic bronze statue of the sun god Helios (or Apollo); it stood about 117 feet high, dominating the harbour entrance at Rhodes. The sculptor Chares supposedly laboured for 12 years before he completed it in 282 BC. It was destroyed by an earthquake about 226 BC. It has long been believed that the Colossus stood in front of the harbor straddling its entrance. That is improbable and recent studies suggest that it was erected on the eastern embankment of the harbor.
Pharos of Alexandria
Marble lighthouse and watchtower built about 270 BC on the island of Pharos in Alexandria's harbour. Possibly standing 400 feet high, it had, at the top stage, a mirror which reflected sunlight during the day while fire was used during the night. Its reflection could be seen more than 35 miles off-shore. Of the six vanished Wonders, the Lighthouse of Alexandria was the last to disappear. It was destroyed by an earthquake in 1375.
Українська кухня Among the first impressions for all the visitors who come to Ukraine is its national food. Ukrainian cuisine is diverse and unique. It has a rich history and is very popular in Slavic countries. There are a lot of tasty dishes in Ukrainian cuisine but the most famous one is perhaps the borscht. It is a vegetable soup, made of beets, cabbage, tomatoes, carrots and potatoes. They also add garlic, onion, dill and meat. There are many varieties of this dish. Every housewife in Ukraine has her own recipe of borscht. Next on the list is the vinegret salad – salad of beetroot with sunflower oil and vinegar. People also add cooked and chopped potatoes, sauerkraut or pickles, onions, herbs and carrots. Breads and wheat products are also important for Ukrainians. For example, they cook traditional wedding bread called “Korovai”, which is a symbol of national hospitality. Easter cake is known as “Paska”. The recipe of paska varies from place to place, but it usually includes milk, butter, eggs, sugar and raisins. Traditional Ukrainian drink is uzvar – compote, made of dried apples and pears. Those, who like fish, would appreciate ukha. It’s a clear soup, made from various types of fish, for example, bream, catfish or ruff. For the main course Ukrainian guests especially like varenyky or pirohi. They are small pastries or dumplings, which can be stuffed with mashed potatoes, cheese, cherries or strawberries. Of course, everyone knows about Ukrainian salo. Nobody leaves Ukraine not having tried one. |

Some people criticize English food. They say it's unimaginable, boring, tasteless, it's chips with everything and totally overcooked vegetables. The basic ingredients, when fresh, are so full of flavour that British haven't had to invent sauces to disguise their natural taste. What can compare with fresh pees or new potatoes just boiled and served with butter? Why drown spring lamb in wine or cream an6d spices, when with just one or two herbs it is absolutely delicious? If you ask foreigners to name some typically English dishes, they will probably say "fish and chips" then stop. It is disappointing, but true that, there is no tradition in England of eating in restaurants, because the food doesn't lend itself to such preparation. English cooking is found at home. So it is difficult to a good English restaurant with a reasonable prices.
In most cities in Britain you'll find Indian, Chinese, French and Italian restaurants. In London you'll also find Indonesian, Mexican, Greek... Cynics will say that this is because English have no "cuisine" themselves, but this is not quite the true.

Green tourism has been increasingly promoted over recent years due to growing concerns about environmental sustainability in many different industries worldwide. New and existing companies now offer advice and reviews on the best eco-friendly hotels in any location. TripAdvisor, for example, launched its GreenLeaders program in early 2013 to monitor the ‘green’ practices of hotels in the United States. In April 2014, TripAdvisor ranked the Bardessono hotel in Yountville, California the best green hotel in the U.S. But it is not just hotels that are taking a green initiative: airlines are too.In 2012, Airbus conducted research into the resources that could be saved with the use of more efficient technology on board passenger aircraft. The leading aircraft manufacturer found that 1.5 billion U.S. dollars, 28 million tons in CO2 emissions, and nine million tons of fuel could be saved by technology optimization. The company’s research shows that 86 percent of global travelers felt that aircraft innovations that enabled less fuel consumption and fewer carbon emissions were most appealing. The use of non-fossil fuels was also important to them. These are just some of the ways in which travelers are jumping on the green tourism bandwagon.
In April 2014, U.S. travelers stated that they turned lights and air conditioning off when not in their hotel room, participated in their hotel’s towel/linen reuse program, and used their hotel’s recycling facilities in order to travel green. The most appreciated eco-friendly hotel practice worldwide was the use of green cleaning products. That said, over 30 percent of global tourists were only willing to pay one to five U.S. dollars extra per night for an environmentally-friendly hotel.
Британські традиції
Every country and every nation has its own customs and traditions. You cannot speak about England without speaking about its traditions and customs. Englishmen are proud of their traditions and carefully keep them up.
The English are stay-at-home people. “There is no place like home”, they say. When they don’t work they like to spend their days off at home with their families.
Englishmen are very fond of fireplaces, that’s why many of them prefer the open fire to central heating.
They like to live in small houses with a small garden. People all over the world know the saying “The Englishman’s home is his castle”.
They say that English people keep to their traditions even in meals. Porridge is the dish Englishmen are very fond of. Many of them eat porridge with milk and sugar for breakfast. As for the Scots, for example, they never put sugar in their porridge, they always put salt in it.
By the way, breakfast time in England is between seven and nine. Then, between 12 and 2 there comes lunch time. In some English houses lunch is the biggest meal of the day — they have meat or fish, vegetables, fruit or pudding.
In the afternoon, at tea-time the English like to have a cup of tea with milk.
Some Englishmen have their dinner late in the evening. For dinner they have soup, fish or meat, vegetables, pudding or fruit. For supper they usually have a glass of milk and a cake or a cup of tea and a sandwich.
The English are tea-drinkers. They have it many times a day. Some Englishmen have tea for breakfast, tea at lunch time, tea after dinner, tea at tea-time and tea with supper. Some English families have “high tea” or big tea and no supper. For high tea they may have cold meat, bread and butter, cakes, and, of course, a lot of tea. The Englishmen always drink tea out of cups, never out of glasses.

Ukraine has great potential for developing tourism: excellent geographic and climatic conditions, historical and cultural resources. Over 125 thousand archaeological, architectural, and historical monuments, some dating from the l0th-11th centuries, and hundreds of museums reflect the remarkable history of the Ukrainian people, who have made worthy contribution to world culture.
The most important and valuable historical, architectural and cultural monuments are concentrated in the regions around Kyiv, Chernyhiv, Sumy, Poltava, Cherkasy and in the lands of Halychyna and Podillia. The beauty and significance of these monuments and of objects of art and frescoes found in this area, have been the motivating factor in creating a system of tourist itineraries named «The Necklace of Slavutych» (Slavutych is the ancient Slavic name of the Dnipro River).
In recent years tourism has undergone considerable changes. Excellent conditions exist for good and inexpensive vacations. At the request of foreign tourist companies, a number of tourist itineraries are being explored.
Dozens of Ukrainian tourist companies participated in international tourist fairs, exchanges and other meetings held in Berlin, Warsaw, London, Milan and Budapest. Working relations have been established with the World Tourist Organization. Kyiv hosted three international tourist fairs. At the third fair held in October 1996, 362 travel companies from 35 countries took part. Approximately 900 contracts were signed.

Готельний бізнес
It's a well known fact that hotels nowadays play a big role. Every year more and more new hotels are opened.
Sometimes it is even difficult to decide which to choose while traveling. There are luxury hotels, which seem to be expensive, b & b hotels, where you will get only breakfasts and a place to sleep, youth hostels, where you serve everything yourself and many other places to stay in.
Some people enjoy staying in a hotel. Sure, on the one hand there are a lot of advantages in it. To begin with, it's convenient. You have a chance to make a telephone call and reserve any room you want in a good time, to be confident by your arrival. Besides, you don't need to serve yourself, everything will be done by the hotel staff, I find it wonderful. More than that, I do like that in the hotel you can be offered some interesting excursions and you can be sure that they are safe because the hotel is responsible for every offer.
But on the other hand, there are still some disadvantages in staying in a hotel. First of all, the service can be poor and slow, for this reason you can be late for a business meeting or a friends' party, I find it extremely disappointing. Second, the food can be too salty, overcooked and spoiled. It can be a serious problem for people with weak stomach. Third, the view from the window can be not so romantic as the advertisement said, it can also disappoint some people, who care about the beauty around them.
Personally I'm for staying in a hotel inspite of all disadvantages. It's only a freak of chance, everything can happen. So before booking a hotel, you'd better learn some facts about it in the net or from your friends for sure. Last summer I stayed in a hotel in Turkey, everything was up to date, wonderful service, tasty food and friendly staff. In general I am only for staying in a hotel, this will save your money, time and will be convenient.
Ресторани Лондону
The British have taken good ideas from all over the world. You can eat Chinese, Indian, Italian and Greek food in any big city. There is a fantastic variety of restaurants. The restaurants' best customers are business people, who meet in them to talk business in a relaxed atmosphere away from the telephone They can eat what they like because the company pays the bill.
When a man and woman want to get to know each other better, they often go out to a restaurant together. After all it's easier to talk in a quiet atmosphere with soft music, wine and good food. Most British families only go to restaurants on special occasions, like birthdays or wedding anniversaries. For visitors to London, eating out can be fun. But if you want that special feeling of London, go to the Ritz in Piccadilly for tea any afternoon at about half past four. And you'll see that the prices are very high. Then you can try England's favourite food-fish and chips. Take it away and eat where you like - in the park, on the bus or while you walk down the street. British restaurants have not always been famous for their good food. Too often, they offered only fried food and chips with everything. But now healthy food is in fashion.
Готельне обслуговування
Nowadays people travel on business and as tourists more than in the past. No businessman can avoid being a paying guest every now and then. In big cities there are a lot of good hotels. Accommodations as well as rates vary from hotel to hotel. There are deluxe hotels, the most luxurious and the most expensive, resort hotels used for entertainment or recreation. Still, if you do not want to get disappointed, it is advisable to book accommodation beforehand by fax or telephone, especially if you are visiting the town during the summer months. If you do not book accommodation beforehand, you may have to leave the hotel because it is fully booked up. That would be an unpleasant experience, especially if you arrived late at night.
Rooms in most hotels have all modern conveniences: central heating, air conditioning, bathroom, hairdryer, trouser press, telephone, satellite TV and others. Service is usually quite satisfactory. You can take a single room, a double room or a suite, charges varying accordingly. If you can't stand the noise of the street, do not take an outside room, ask for an inside one.
Service is supposed to begin at the door. When your taxi stops at the entrance to the hotel the doorman and the bellboy help you with the luggage. The doorman is very important during the reception procedure. He is stationed at the entrance to the hotel and assists the guests in and out of taxis and cars, calls for cabs. In the lobby of a hotel there is a registration or front desk where the guests check in and out, pick up and deposit keys and so on. The guest is given a registration card to fill out the name and permanent address. The desk clerk or receptionist enters the guest’s room number, the room rate, and the arrival and departure dates into the computer. Then he asks the guest to sign his or her name.
When the guests are through with the formalities, the bellboy takes them and their luggage up in the lift and shows them to their room. He shows them where the light switches are and explains the use of the room appliances, such as the television set, cooking facilities, if any, and the air conditioning. He can also run errands for you. Now that you have been settled in a hotel room and have been given the key of it, you become a regular hotel guest.
At the hotel you can get various services. If you want to have your suit pressed or dry cleaned, your shirt ironed, or your laundry done, you should ring for the maid and she will see to it that everything is done. You can also have your meals served in your room.
In the lobby of a hotel there are a lot of offices: a booking office, post and telegraph offices, an information desk supervised by the concierge. At the information desk you can enquire about the departures and arrivals of trains and flights, about telephone numbers and addresses of offices and private individuals and about a lot of other things. Concierges are always ready to help the guests and provide them with all kinds of useful information. Besides, there is a newsstand, a bookstall, a kiosk selling picture postcards and souvenirs. Cosmetics and liquor are sold too, but with a sales tax. At the airport you can buy them tax-free. At the booking office they can book for you seats at the theatre or on the plane, or hotel accommodation in another town.
In the same building there are also restaurants, bars, cafeterias, beauty parlours, saunas, steam rooms and massage rooms, along with fully equipped supervised gyms and swimming pools.

Chinese New Year, Hong Kong
Flamboyant dragon and lion dances, agile acrobats and marching bands fill the lantern-lit streets of Hong Kong for Chinese New Year in January or February. Devout locals flock to the city’s temples for their fortune. The festivities climax in a dazzling firework display over Victoria Harbour.
Rio Carnival
Without doubt one of the top 10 festivals in the world, the five-day Rio Carnival is a sexy, glittering, samba-infused extravaganza. Parties on Copacabana beach and throughout the city build up to the all-night Samba Parade, where dancers, flamboyant floats and transvestites take to the streets.
Моя подорож
Millions of people in the world spend their holidays travelling. Luckily, there are many companies today, which can organize your tour and leisure time whenever or wherever you like. As for me, I am curious to know more about new places and countries, to explore their sights and to learn about other people’s culture. Most of all, I’m interested in English-speaking countries. Last year, my parents decided to arrange a tour to Great Britain for me. It was supposed to include two teachers and ten children. I can’t tell you how happy I was. It was during autumn holidays and I was planning to stay for a week. The only problem was weather. At this time of the year Britain is rainy and humid. Although, compared to the great time I was going to have there, it was nothing. So I packed my bags and prepared for the voyage. We arrived to London by plane. At the airport we were greeted by our host families. I was going to stay at my penfriend’s place in a village not far from Bristol. The view there was breathtaking. It was a small settlement with a number of neat houses and several farmyards. There were some stores and a pub. When we wanted to experience city rush, we drove to Bristol. I liked this city. It was full of light, spacious stores, various restaurants, malls with cinema theatres, cute bridges and castles. There was even an adventure park for kids in Bristol surroundings, which we visited on the third day of our stay. We spent a day in London. I should say I fell in love with this city once I saw it. Our friends showed us around. We managed to visit the Museum of Madame Tussauds, the Trafalgar Square, the Westminster Abbey. In the evening we went to the Piccadilly Circus, which seemed even more beautiful than on pictures. It’s a pity we didn’t stay there longer, because there is much more to see in London. When I returned home, I was full of positive emotions. If I get a chance I will visit this country again.
