сли вы изучаете английский язык, то даже начинающим, необходимо получить представление о такой части речи, которая называется герундий.
В этом уроке мы рассмотрим что такое герундий, а также, когда герундий используется в предложении.
Что такое герундий?
Герундий (gerund) – это английская часть речи, обладающая свойствами существительного и глагола.
ПРИМЕРЫ:
- Thank you for coming. – Спасибо, что пришел.
- Excuse me for being late. – Простите, что опоздал.
Как видно из примеров, герундий переводится глаголом.

В английском языке есть еще части речи, совпадающие по форме с герундием. Это отглагольное существительное и действительное причастие.

Итак, отвечаю на вопрос, что такое герундий в английском языке.
Герундий —это форма глагола с окончанием ING, которая переводится на русский глаголом, но имеет свойства существительного.
Если примерно понятно, что такое герундий, то давайте рассмотрим его формы:

Итак, как видно из таблицы,герундий изменяется по временам и имеет 4 формы:
- две в активном залоге: writing& having written
- две в пассивном залоге: being written & having been written
Начинающим надо научиться употреблять в речи только основную форму — writing (это форма герундия в настоящем времени в активном залоге).
Выполните упражнение на герундий в качестве подлежащего и потренируйтесь в его переводе.
ПРИМЕР. Riding a bike is fun! — Кататься на велосипеде — весело!
Упражнение 1. Образуйте герундий от глагола в скобках и переведите предложение.
1. … too much television gives Mrs Harris a headache. (watch)
2. … to loud music is bad for your ears. (listen)
3. I believe … postcards is an interesting hobby. (collect)
4. … is rather boring. (fish)
5. … computer games can cause addiction (зависимость).
Форму герундия в perfect (having written), как правило, можно заменить на non-perfect (writing). Поэтому на этот счет беспокоится не надо!
ПРИМЕРЫ:
- I remember meeting her. = I remember having met her. – Я помню, что встречал ее.
- After doing such hard work they decided to rest a little. = After having done such hard work for a long time they decided to rest. – Они решили немного отдохнуть после того как выполнили такую тяжелую работу.
Однако уметь переводить предложения с герундием на начальном этапе надо уже в двух формах: writing & having written.
В этом нет ничего сложного, если запомнить, что
- форма writing – переводится придаточным предложением в настоящем или будущем времени;
- а форма having written — переводится придаточным предложением в прошедшем времени.
ПРИМЕРЫ.
- She thinks of writing a book. – Она думает о том, что напишет книгу.
- She thinks of having written a book. – Она думает о том, что написала книгу.

Text. The Role of Mass Media
It has always been impossible to imagine our life without the mass media. The most ancient mass media are books. Nowadays the most important mass media are newspapers, magazines, radio, television, and the Internet.
All mass media are supposed to inform, educate and entertain people. Subconsciously they influence the way people look at the world and make them change their views. They even help to mould public opinion.
Let us consider the advantages and disadvantages of different mass media.
On the one hand, radio, television and the press are valuable because they help to get the latest news, including the weather forecast. We can get informationfrom the Internet in a few minutes. Besides, listening to the radio, watching films on TV, reading the press or navigating the Internet is a good way to relax.
On the other hand, the mass media usually focus on negative information.Watching news programs we primarily learn about war, crimes, disasters, and accidents. Negative information causes stress and bad mood. Some children may become aggressive if they watch violent programmes. What is more, there is a lot of gossip in the press and on TV. The latter is also abounds in stupid chat shows, endless daily soap operas and terrible action films.
Some people are complaining that nowadays the media are full of violence and advertising. On the whole, it is true. But nobody makes you to watch it. You have a choice and you are free to choose.
The situation is the same with the Internet, which is considered to be the newest kind of mass media. It’s a powerful means of communication and a great source of information which helps in school studies. As for me, I use the Internet for finding information and for communicating with my mates. I also download music and films.
To sum up, the mass media are an essential part of modern society. We are able to benefit from their advantages and have to copy with their disadvantages.

- There are dozens of radio stations in Russia. Most of them broadcast music of a definite style, for example Radio Chanson broadcasts Russian chanson.
- There are talk shows and intellectual quizzes on many radio stations. Radio has another advantage: you can do something and listen to the radio at the same time.
- Nowadays many families have several TV sets. Both television and the Internet give people a chance to learn about the world.
Средства массовой информации — это инструмент влияния на людей. Это очень незаметное влияние, но оно очень сильное, и, главным образом, потому что вы его просто не осознаете. Наверное, реклама является самой примитивной, явной и грубой форма этого воздействия, так как она, не скрывая, призывает нас купить тот или иной товар. Рекламный слоган таков, что должен зацепить, заставить не забыть. И даже, если в нормальном состоянии, вы можете проигнорировать ее, то в критической ситуации она все равно сработает, щелкнет в подсознании и вы, как зомби, выполните программу, заложенную в вас многократным повторением. Но мощнее всего влияние, которое оказывает на вас фильм, песня, телешоу… Не забывайте, что и они делаются на заказ. (прим. автора)
