FAMILY RELATIONS

‘Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe,

call it a family. Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one.’

Jane Howard, ‘Families’

A vocabulary defines a family as “people who are closely related”. Psychologists usually refer to a family consisting of mother, father and their children as a nuclear family. . An extended family includes aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, nieces, grandparents, daughters-and sons-in law and other relatives. A lot of people get divorced now and bring up children on their own. Such families are called one-parent or single parent families.

Nobody can deny the fact that nothing is more important than a family. You may not realize how momentous a home is when you're small, but when you become more mature , you'll realize that family really means everything to you. First of all, it's where your life begins and the love you are given truly never dies. It's the place where you are loved for who you are, therefore, you're free to be yourself. Secondly, you can always count on the members of your family. They have been there for you since the day you were born and there's no reason for them to leave you when you grow up. They are the ones who always stand by you, help you face the problems and difficulties you have to solve in your life. They're the ones who teach you the value of love, gratitude, truthfulness and self-confidence. Despite those tough experiences you have to suffer in life which may not come to your expectations, your family will always stand by your side and help you deal with them. They make sure that you know a family means no one is left behind or forgotten. The last but not least, your family help improve your personalities. Being raised in a good family let you have a good head start which will be a huge benefit for you later in the future.

Most of families start with marriages. However, nowadays there are a lot of people who prefer living together without any official registration ceremonies. Young people are to understand that it is not enough to promise to love and cherish each other, it is important to realize that they take a big step both legally and financially by deciding to get married.

It is essential to ingrain the importance of family into the children. They need to know that friends will come and go, but family is the one constant they will have in life. Parents should foster the bond between siblings, as well as between each parent and child. This is especially important in a single-child family.People living together should be patient, understanding, careful, tender and devoted to each other and have a good sense of humour. It is great to feel support from the members of your family. A lot of things make the family closer, for example: going on trips together, visiting relatives on holidays, birthdays or anniversaries, discussing the plans, sharing all joys and sorrows.

Every mother feels great affection for her children and tries to bring them upin a properway. There are different opinions on how children should be treated if they disobey their parents, break the rules, and don’t keep their words or promises. Most people think that parents should be patient, kind and understanding. They should remember their own green years. The rules and children’s behavior are discussed in such families. Others believe that children ought to obey their parents in any situation and if they don’t, they should be punished. From my point of view, such principles won’t do a lot of good. The fear of punishment may lead to selfishness, cruelty and lies. So, being an ideal parent is a very delicate task demanding tact, patience and diligence.

It is necessary to mention that in a case of divorce people should think first of all about their children, otherwise it can cause unpredictable consequences.

Every masterpiece is born in pain, so it would be a mistake to think that a happy family doesn’t face any problems. However, it’s essential for parents and their children to be always ready to experiment and find a way out of the problem.

It is great to think that there is a family, where you can find support, love and understanding and there are people you can take care of.
