[e ] – дифтонг. Ядро дифтонга – краткий гласный [е] переднего ряда среднего подъема узкой разновидности, нелабиализованный. После произнесения ядра язык делает легкое движение вверх в направлении звука [i], не достигая его полного образования.
Следите за тем, чтобы ядро звучало громко и протяжно, а вторая его часть значительно тише и короче. Смягчите немного предшествующий согласный, чтобы передняя спинка языка автоматически слегка поднялась. При этом ядро станет более закрытым. Растяните немного губы. Не открывайте широко рот.

Porter: You see, sir, they changed the timetable at the end of April. It’s the first of May today.
