Контрольная работа № 1
Контрольная работа № 1 выполняется студентами на первом курсе. Для того, чтобы правильно ее выполнить, необходимо усвоить следующие разделы.
1. Имя существительное. Множественное число. Артикли и предлоги как показатели имени существительного. Выражения падежных отношений в английском языке с помощью предлогов и окончания -s. Существительное в функции определения и его перевод на русский язык.
2. Имя прилагательное. Степени сравнения имен прилагательных.
3. Местоимения: личные, притяжательные, указательные.
4. Форма настоящего (Present), прошедшего (Past) и будущего (Future) времени группы Indefinite действительного залога изъявительного наклонения. Спряжение глаголов to be, to have в Present, Past и Future Indefinite. Повелительное наклонение и его отрицательная форма.
5. Простое распространенное предложение: прямой порядок слов повествовательного и побудительного предложений в утвердительной и отрицательной формах; обратный порядок слов вопросительного предложения.

English in our life
Needless to say that it is necessary to learn foreign languages, English is used not only in such large English-speaking countries as Great Britain, the United States of America, Canada, Australia, but also in many other parts of the world. That's why pupils have got such subject as a foreign language at school.
I learn English because I want to read foreign literature in the original. I know and like such English and American writers and poets as Lewis Carroll, Mark Twain, William Shakespeare, Jack London, and many others. I understand that I must learn English. If I know English well, I'll be able to read books by English and American writers in the original.

My day off
A lot of people in our country work five days a week but students and pupils work six days. They have only one day off. It is Sunday.
I like this day very much. On this day I wake up later than usual. But sometimes I don't get up till nine or ten o'clock. I read morning newspapers or listen to music.
As soon as I get up I air the room, make my bed and do morning exercises. Then I have breakfast, clear away the dishes and wash up.
In the evening all the members of our family get together. We have our supper, make plans for tomorrow, watch TV or read books. Reading is my hobby. Sometimes we receive guests at our place or go for a walk. I enjoy my days off very much.

Travelling
Millions of people all over the world spend their holidays travelling. They travel to see other countries and continents, modern cities and the ruins of ancient towns, they travel to enjoy picturesque places, or just for a change of a scene. It is always interesting to discover new things, different ways of life, to meet different people, to try different food, to listen to different musical rhythms.
People travel by train, by boat and by car. All means of travel have their advantages and disadvantages. And people choose one according to their plans and possibilities.
The best way to study geography is to travel, and the best way to get to know and to get acquainted with the people is to meet them in their own homes.

Sports and games
It goes without saying that one of the most important tasks today is to bring up a healthy generation.
That′s why most governments pay special attention to sport and physical education. Most colleges and schools have well-equipped gyms, swimming pools and tennis courts, where pupils and students can develop physically and get all the necessary skills and habits.
Nowadays almost all people are fond of some sport, because it helps them to keep fit and because they enjoy it. There are summer and winter kinds of sports. The most popular outdoor winter sports are: shooting, hunting, skating, skiing, hockey. In summer people have excellent opportunities for swimming, rowing, fishing and others. You can go in for gymnastics, boxing, wrestling, play volley-ball, basket-ball and tennis all year round.

My flat
We live in a new 16-storeyd block of flats in Strogino. It is situated in a very picturesque place not far from the Moskva River. There is a big supermarket on the ground floor and it is very convenient to do every day shopping.
Our flat is on the first floor. It is very comfortable and well-planned. We have all modern conveniences, such as central heating, electricity, gas, cold and hot running water and a telephone. There are three rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a hall in our flat. There is also a balcony and we can enjoy a lovely view of the river.
The largest room in our flat is the living room and we use it as a dining room and as a sitting room.

Books in our life
We cannot imagine our life without books. Books are our friends. They play a very important role in our life. We learn very much from books. Books educate people in different spheres of life. They develop our imagination, make us think and analyse. They help to form our character and the world outlook. Books help us in self-education and in deciding problems of life.
People read both for knowledge and for pleasure. Different people read different books. There are different kinds of books: novels, short stories, tales, fairy-tales, poems, plays, atlases and text-books. Books can be humorous, adventurous, detective, fantastic, political, scientific.
So many people, so many tastes. Books are certainly one of the greatest invention of the man.
