Who Gets Divorced and How?
I. Read the text. What are the main reasons for divorce in US?
ВВВВВВВВ Marriage is a business partnership as much as a romantic fairy tale; it involves compromises, specialization and division of labour, financial arrangements, and communication. That is why nine out of ten Americans get married at least once, but many of these couples don't live together happily ever after. Current trends suggest that close to two - thirds of new marriages will end in divorce. Nearly 40 percent of couples who divorce will do so before their fifth anniversary and about 65 percent before their tenth. In the nineteenth18century, nine out of ten American marriages lasted until one of the spouses died. Since then, the proportion of marriages ended by death has declined, while the proportion ended by divorce has increased. The US divorce rate remains high compared with previous eras and with other societies.
