When we are talking about people from a particular country, we add ‘s’ to nationalities ending in ‘-i’ or ‘-(i)an’= Brazilians/Russians are … but we need the definite article (the) for most others.

The British / The French are …

With both groups we can also use the word ‘people’, e.g. Brazilian people, British people, etc.

Some nationalities have nouns for referring to people, e.g. a Finn, a Spaniard, a Dane, a Briton, an Arab. For most nationalities we can use the adjective as a noun, e.g. a German, a Greek. Some need man/woman/person added to them (you can’t say a Dutch) , so if in doubt, use them, e.g. a French man.

People speak dialectsas well as languages. Everyone has a native language, or mother tongue, or first language; many have second and third languages. Some people are perfect in more than one language and are bilingual, or multilingual.
