Present Perfect and Past Simple
1) Различие в употреблении Present Perfect и Past Simple заключается в том, что действие, передаваемое Present Perfect, всегда связывает прошлое с настоящим (либо своим результатом, либо временем совершения), в то время как Past Simple передает действие, полностью отрезанное от момента речи (на это может указывать обстоятельство времени, или это может вытекать из контекста, или подразумеваться говорящим, но в любом случае действие, передаваемое Past Simple, всегда является констатацией факта в прошлом.
Эти различия в употреблении Present Perfect и Past Simple следует помнить при переводе предложений с русского языка на английский, поскольку почти всегда оба времени соответствуют в русском языке глаголу в прошедшем времени.
Сравните:
Я давно видел этот фильм. I saw this film long time ago
(давно – long time ago = констатация факта в прошлом)
Я давно не видел такого хорошего фильма. I haven’t seen such a good film for a long time.
(давно – for a long time = в течение долгого времени, включающего момент речи до настоящего момента)
2) С обстоятельствами времени today, this morning, this afternoon, которые обозначают незаконченный период, могут использоваться как Present Perfect, так и Past Simple.

С выражениями this morning, this afternoon Present Perfect может употребляться только в том случае, если/когда этот период времени еще не завершился.
Если период времени (утреннее или дневное время) окончен, то используется Past Simple.
I wasn’t very well this morning, but I’m perfectly all right now.
С обстоятельством времени today Past Simple употребляется в том случае, когда действие произошло в какой-то определенный момент времени в течение дня
Did you get any mail today? (mail is delivered at a given time)
Наречие recently в значении «недавно» (at a time that was not long ago) употребляется с глаголом в Past Simple:
She only recently discovered the truth.
В значении «за последнее время» (at a time that started not long) – с глаголом в Present Perfect.
Have you seen her recently?
Наречие just в значении «только что» (in the very recent past) часто употребляется с глаголом в Present Perfect, с Past Simple его употребление невозможно.
В то же время сочетание just now в значении “a moment ago” употребляется в Past Simple, в Present Perfect оно употребляться не может.

Довольно часто встречаются предложения, в которых отсутствует обстоятельство времени, и в которых могут употребляться как Present Perfect, так и Past Simple.
Have you had
Сравните: Вы хорошо провели время? a good time?
Did you have
Вопрос “have you had a good time?” будет уместен в конце вечеринки, в то время, как вопрос “Did you have a good time?”, можно задать на следующий день.
Следует также различать употребление Past Simple и Present Perfect в предложениях, где есть обстоятельство времени с прилагательным last: last year и in the last year. Сочетание last year указывает на какой-то момент времени в прошлом и употребляется с Past Simple, сочетание in the last year указывает на то, что действие произошло в период времени, который не закончился на момент речи.
I went to England last year.
I have been to England in the last year.
Present Perfect употребляется также с сочетанием in the past year:
In the past year, a lot ofpeople have become unemployed in Scotland.
Примечание 4. Present Perfect не употребляется в специальных вопросах, начинающихся с When и How. В этих случаях используется Past Simple:
When did you arrive?
How did you get in?
Present Perfect не употребляется в следующих ситуациях:
Что вы сказали? What did you say?
Я не слышал вашего вопроса. I did not hear your question.
В предложениях, начинающихся с «Я слышал, что...» и «Мне сказали, что...» вместо Present Perfect (I’ve heard) используется Present Simple (I hear):
I hear you are leaving us.
I hear you have changed your job.
They tell me you have changed your job.
I’m toldyouaremovinghouse.
