READ TEXT

Read the following description of a person and his character. Pay attention how to link personality to physical appearance and provide examples to support the narrator’s statements. Some notes on a person’s dressing style help to make a description more interesting and complete, don’t they ?

Greg is strong and well-built which makes him look quite tough, but in fact he is a quiet, sensitive person.

He is easy-going about lots of things, but he does worry about his appearance and his hair! He spends a lot of time in the bathroom trying to flatten his hair with water. Greg usually wears expensive sunglasses. He likes to look fashionable and cool.

When we are with our parents he is shy and doesn’t like talking about girls. When dad tears him his ears and cheeks turn bright red. At home Greg is quiet, but as soon as he meets up with friends he becomes so talkative that his friends often tell him to shut up. He has a kind, smiley face and is always friendly.

b) Do you feel you are a different person in different situations ? Do you:

· speak differently when you are with different people ? Who with ? When ?

· argue with some people but not others ? Who do you argue with ? When ?

· feel that you are more talkative with people your own age than with adults ? Why ?

DO EXERSICES:

A) Listen to three people describing a girl and match them with the opinions.

1) Her teacher a) thinks she’s attractive, communicative and helpful.

2) Her father b) thinks she’s cheerful, popular, reliable and sympathetic.

3) A neighbour c) thinks she’s honest and cheerful, but disorganised and sometimes bad- tempered.

b) How can someone’s behaviour and habits tell us about a person ?

RED THE POEM

ME

I can climb the highest mountain,

Sail across the wildest sea,

Now that I’ve discovered

That I’m happy to be me.

I can study mathematics,

Be a man of high degree,

Now I’ve solved the puzzle

That I’m happy to be me

I can make the finest music,

Write a book of poetry,

Now I’ve learned the lesson

That I’m happy to be me.

I can do the things

I dreamed of,

Live a life that’s great and free,

How I’ve found the secret

That I’m happy to be me.
