Direct Speech and Reported Speech

Косвенная речь – передача содержания прямой речи в виде пересказа (описательным путем). Косвенная речь передается придаточным дополнительным предложением, которое вводится союзом или бессоюзно. Запятая перед дополнительным придаточным предложением не ставится.

He asked him where she lived.

При преобразовании прямой речи в косвенную должны соблюдаться следующие правила.

1. Время глагола прямой речи не изменяется, если глагол, вводящий косвенную речь, в настоящем времени.

I am very sorry.

She says she is very sorry.

2. Если глагол, вводящий прямую речь, стоит в форме прошедшего времени, то при изменении прямой речи в косвенную глагол-сказуемое придаточного предложения ставится в одной из форм прошедшего времени по правилам согласования времен.

3. Другие времена изменяются так же, то есть сдвигаются в направлении прошлого.

4. При преобразовании Direct Speech в Reported Speech, местоимения и наречия тоже изменяются.

5. Если в косвенной речи передается прямой вопрос (Direct Question), то он становится косвенным вопросом (Indirect Question), который представляет из себя придаточное дополнительное предложение, вводимое союзами if или whether, если вопрос общий (ли), и союзными словами when, why, where, what, who, which и т. д., в зависимости от характера вопроса. Порядок слов в косвенном вопросе прямой.

6. Если в прямой речи передается просьба или приказ, в котором глагол-сказуемое стоит в повелительном наклонении (Imperative Mood), то при изменении такой прямой речи в косвенную речь, приказ или просьба передаются инфинитивной конструкцией.

7. В отрицательной форме в косвенной речи частица not ставится перед инфинитивом.

1. We asked, “Mother, don’t be angry with us”. 2. She said, “Don’t smoke, please”. 1. We asked mother not to be angry. 2. She asked me not to smoke.

8. Слова-предложения Yes и No в прямой речи в косвенной передаются:

Yes: to agree, to consent (соглашаться, уступать, разрешать), to answer in the affirmative.

No: to reject (отвергнуть)? To refuse (отказаться), to deny (отрицать, отказываться), to answer in the negative.

Passive voice

В английском языке глаголы имеют два залога: The Active Voice – действительный и The Passive Voice – страдательный.

Глагол в действительном залоге показывает, что действие выполняется, совершается лицом или предметом, обозначенным подлежащим.

I read the book.

Глагол в страдательном залоге показывает, что лицо или предмет, обозначенный подлежащим, испытывает воздействие или находится в определенном состоянии в результате какого-то воздействия.

The book was read.
